We’re super fans of paper in all its forms. It's palpable nature, versatility and universal appeal has made it one of the best mediums of expression for thousands of years. Know what else we’re fans of? People that adore paper as much as we do! Recently, we stumbled upon a couple of paper chasers after our own hearts. French artist duo Zim&Zou not only chase it down, they slice it, glue it, fold it and mold it to create some pretty freaking fantastic things.
Based out of Nancy, France-y the pair (Lucie Thomas and Thibault Zimmerman) studied graphic design for a few years until they decided to re-focus their time on art and began handcrafting installations out of tactile materials like paper, thread and wood. All of their sculptures are created by hand with laser beam precision and encompass a myriad of subjects from model cities to a BBQ feast. Several of their installations have been featured in international expositions that bring awareness to various social issues including the excesses of the food industry, juvenile vaccinations and recycling.
Whether it's landing big projects for SXSW, Hermès and Microsoft, or creating just for fun, the paper keeps stacking up for these two, and we cant wait to see what they dream up next.
